Mayor Scott Forssell
Scott Forssell, Mayor of the City of Hayden, is a longtime resident of north Idaho. He is a 30-year resident of the city and has first-hand knowledge of the changes that have taken place in that time. He was appointed by City Council to replace Mayor Steve Griffitts in May, 2022.
Scott graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Recreation and Parks, and then from Colorado State University with a Masters of Science degree in Recreation Resources. Scott was a career employee of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. While working for the Bureau of Land Management he was instrumental in acquiring conservation lands from willing landowners. He also processed and administered rights-of-way for roads, power lines, and other utilities across public land in north Idaho.
Scott is passionate about transparency in government and following the will of Hayden citizens. He enthusiastically supports a business community that creates jobs. He is very concerned about the effects of our current residential growth and losing Hayden’s “small town feel”.
Scott retired in 2012 and has been active in local causes including the Hayden Senior Center and youth softball. He was an Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout Scoutmaster in the area for eleven years. He is married to wife Stephanie Snook, has two daughters and three grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, golf, wood-turning (bowls, platters, and vases), whitewater rafting, and his grandkids.
