RECREATION PROGRAMS UPDATE – 9/14/2020

Dear Coaches and Parents:

As you know, air quality is a major concern right now, so we are enacting the following protocols regarding youth football and soccer practices and games. Health is our number 1 priority; so for the best interest and safety of all participants, please adhere to the guidelines below.

If the Air Quality Index is above 150 one (1) hour prior to a scheduled practice, practice will be canceled.

  • If the Air Quality Index is above 150 one (1) hour prior to the start of the first game on any Saturday during the season, all games will be canceled that day.
  • We do not permit any teams to have a physical practice under these conditions, even indoors.
  • Any games that have been canceled due to air quality restrictions are lost and are not guaranteed to be rescheduled at any point. This is due to the availability of fields, referees, etc.
  • Please Note: an Air Quality Index of 101-150 means it is unhealthy for sensitive groups, and although games and practices will be played, we ask parents to use their best judgment in allowing children who fall into this group to play.
  • We expect all teams and participants to adhere to the Air Quality Index protocols put in place, as well as continuing to follow all CDC and PHD coronavirus protocols.
  • Please visit https://www.airnow.gov/ regularly for the current index numbers.

If you have any questions, please call 208-209-1080.

Thank you,

 Hayden Recreation & Community Events

RECREATION PROGRAMS UPDATE – 7/29/2020

Hi Parents and Coaches,

Baseball games are quickly approaching, and we’re so excited to have the kids out playing again! As you know, Panhandle Health District mandated the wearing face masks, and as a government agency, we are required to adhere to the following mandate:

“That every person in Kootenai County is required to wear a face mask covering that completely covers the person’s nose and mouth when the person is in a public place and physical distancing of 6 feet from others CANNOT be maintained.” For detailed content and requirements, we encourage everyone to review the mandate at https://panhandlehealthdistrict.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/FINAL-signed-PHD-Order-Masks-July-23-2020.pdf.

We are asking that those involved with our program please follow this mandate. If kids are physically distanced on the bench, in the dugout and on the field, they will not need to wear a face mask. If there’s not enough room in the dugout or on the bench, kids can distance in the grass area to the side of the dugout/bench; and a team parent will mostly likely need to help with this. We ask that team parents and coaches wear face masks, as they will be in direct contact with players. Our staff will also wear face masks or maintain a 6-foot distance for your protection.

There are a lot of considerations in the mandate regarding family members, children under 2 and health conditions, etc., so please be understanding. Our goal is to keep people as safe as possible, give kids the opportunity to play the great game of baseball and enjoy the outdoors. As well, we will still be following the CDC protocols outlined in the update on 7/7/20.

We encourage you to follow these protocols and the mandate, as it could affect our ability to provide and conduct fall youth sports and future programs. Your support and understanding is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Hayden Recreation & Community Events

RECREATION PROGRAMS UPDATE – 7/7/2020

Dear Baseball Parents and Coaches,

Thank you for participating in Summer Youth Baseball. We’ve had to make a few changes due to the current Covid-19 situation. Due to a majority of staff in City Hall working from home, including Recreation staff, we are delaying the season by two weeks. This decision was made because there was a positive case at Hayden City Hall, and we are taking all the recommended CDC and PHD precautions.

The new coaches’ meeting will be held on Monday, July 20 in the McIntire Family Park Gazebo. Coaches will receive equipment at the meeting and can start practices immediately. Games are scheduled to start August 3 and run through the end of August.

Baseball is different than soccer in that more manageable procedures can be implemented and kids are already distanced in the field. For the safety of everyone involved, we are instituting the following protocols.

Each child is asked to bring his/her own helmet.

  1. No high-fives or huddles – coaches please be creative with team cheers.
  2. No sharing water bottles.
  3. Prepackaged only treats.
  4. Physical distancing (with the help of a parent) in the dugout or on the bench.
  5. No items besides gloves and bats inside the dugouts.
  6. The ball and bat will be cleaned after each batter.
  7. City will have hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray at the site during games.
  8. Coaches will be tasked with following the same protocols at practices.
  9. Parents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to create social distancing, and so bleachers won’t get too crowded.
  10. Wait for teams to clear the field/dugouts before new teams enter.
  11. Parents/coaches/players/spectators adhere to CDC guidelines (listed below).
  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer
  • Cover your coughs & sneezes or wear a cloth face cover
  • Monitor your health and stay home if not feeling well
  • Keep at least 6 feet of space between you and others

Taking all of these factors into consideration, we think we should be able to conduct the youth baseball season, as the nature of the game allows for more adaptability. If everyone works together to follow protocols, we think we can have a successful baseball season. That being said, we are still navigating a situation that has never been done before, and programs are subject to change.

Our number one priority is your safety as we continue. If players or coaches test positive or know they have been exposed to the virus, we ask they let us know right away, so we can inform potentially affected teams immediately. We want kids to have the opportunity to play while staying as safe as possible. The responsibility of your child’s health and well-being is yours. It is your decision if you want to let your child participate. If you are not comfortable with playing at this time, please let us know right away by calling 208-209-1080.

We also remain optimistic that by September, youth soccer and flag football programs will be able to be conducted. Registration for fall youth sports runs July 27-August 14 (in-office) or August 16 (online).

Thanks so much for your understanding and patience and stay healthy.

RECREATION PROGRAMS UPDATE – 7/6/2020

Dear Soccer Parents and Coaches,

We’ve done everything that we could to try and conduct the spring soccer program; but there have been several new developments in the past week that we’ve had to take into account including:

  1. A positive case at Hayden City Hall with direct exposure to Recreation employees, who under Panhandle Health District’s direction, are required to quarantine for 14 days. Consequently, this takes away those who would be running the program.
  2. The significant increase in the number of cases in Kootenai County.
  3. Possible outside exposure to several players and coaches who are in the program.

Taking all of these factors into consideration, we are not able to conduct the remainder of the youth soccer season.

Although we have incurred many expenses at this point for the soccer program, we are able to give participants a 75% refund, which allows us to only cover the cost of team shirts. If you’d like a credit instead, please let us know by emailing Jennifer Arrotta, the Recreation Coordinator, at jarrotta@cityofhaydenid.us or call 208-209-1080.

We are saddened and disappointed to have to cancel and thank you for sticking with us to allow us to give it a try. Unfortunately, the coronavirus situation has escalated since we started. That being said, we remain optimistic that by September, youth soccer and flag football programs will be able to be conducted. Registration for fall youth sports runs July 27-August 14 (in-office) or August 16 (online).

As always, the City’s number one priority is your safety. As a reminder, here are the CDC guidelines everyone should be following:

  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer
  • Cover your coughs & sneezes or wear a cloth face cover
  • Monitor your health and stay home if not feeling well
  • Keep at least 6 feet of space between you and others

Thanks so much for your understanding and patience and please stay healthy.

RECREATION PROGRAMS UPDATE – 6/29/2020

Dear Hayden Soccer Coaches and Parents:

With the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the City of Hayden has decided to suspend soccer games and practices this week. This will give us an opportunity to continue to monitor the situation and re-evaluate on Monday, July 6. As always, we will update you immediately if anything changes.

At this time no one in our program has tested positive for the coronavirus; but it has come to our attention that we have participants who could have potentially been exposed, so we’re erring on the side of caution. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our participants and community.

Please continue to visit www.cityofhaydenid.us for timely updates under the Recreation & Community Events, Important Program Updates.

As a reminder, the Panhandle Health District is available to help with questions regarding coronavirus and can be reached at 877-415-5225.

RECREATION & COMMUNITY EVENTS PROGRAMS AND EVENTS UPDATE
4/7/20

Following the unanimous decision of the Idaho State School Board of Education to “soft close” schools until the end of the school year, the following changes to programs are being taken:

  • Youth Volleyball, and Women’s Basketball seasons are being canceled, as schools are unavailable during the dates these leagues would run. Refunds or credits will be given. Please email jarrotta@cityofhaydenid.us to let us know which you prefer.
  • Youth Soccer continues to be postponed, and we are hopeful that this program will still be conducted in May-June or June-July. Of course, this will be determined by any further mandated COVID-19 protocols; so there is still a possibility of cancellation. The Department will continue to monitor the situation closely, reassess as necessary and notify participants right away of any decisions made.
  • The Hayden Kite Festival is canceled and won’t be conducted this year, but we’ll see you in April 2021!
  • To do our part to help slow the spread of the coronavirus, all City of Hayden playgrounds have been closed. Parks and trails remain open.
